ETCH Drops & Open Time Processing
Dear Hawaiian Flight Attendants:
We spent the week meeting with the company working on Section 12 of the agreement. Section 12 deals with pick-ups, drops, trades and exchanges. The committee looked at addressing the problems you raised in the survey. We were able to make some progress and are working to resolve the outstanding issues when we next meet in October.
Automation
Automation was again a frequent topic of concern for both the company and the association. Although there may be some manual work-arounds to issues that are currently problematic, the company has indicated a clear preference to automate as much as possible. AFA prefers automation because it eliminates subjectivity and expedites the process.
ETCH Drops & Open Time Processing
One of the issues we were able to reach a tentative agreement on was the processing order of ETCH drops and Open Time requests. In the past the ETCH trades and Open Time requests were processed concurrently, meaning that there wasn’t a clear order for those requests to be processed. Beginning on September 28th, Crew Scheduling will be processing the ETCH drops first, immediately followed by the Open Time requests on a trial basis. This will allow you to plan accordingly when submitting ETCH drops, pick-ups, and Open Time requests. The Committee will review the results with the company during our next bargaining session.
Other Improvements
We were also successful in reducing the minimum trade times for trip trades, as provided in Section 12.D.1., as well as memorialized the practice of segment trades (Section 12.L.).
